Life and Death

The universe works in mysterious ways. Last night, I received two big news in the space of just a few hours. First, one of my dearest friend, who happens to be an ex-boyfriend of mine, called to tell me that his mom had passed away. About two hours later, another friend called to tell me that his son and daughter-in-law just were at the hospital, having their baby.

As one life ends, another one begins. That's the cycle of life. No one escapes it. We can only hope to have enough time on this earth to grow as persons, learn life lessons and become better human beings more and more every year.

My friend's mom passed away at 80 years old. She had a good life. She was a very generous and devoted mother. I've always liked her and I know that she will be missed.

Yvette, may your soul lives on. You were a funny lady. Wherever you are, I'm sure you still kick ass!

The road best traveled alone

I went to Boston this past weekend. Saturday we visited my ex's family. He wanted our daughter and his son to meet their 98 year old great-grand-mother. So it was a nice visit with my ex's relatives. They live about 20 minutes from Boston and we spent the afternoon and part of the evening there. Then Sunday, we went to visit Boston. We were just there for about 4 hours, so by the time we had breakfast, there was not much time left to do a lot of things.

It was the second time that I visited Boston, and both time, I was with other people and I did not have time to visit the things that I really wanted to see. So next time, I'll go alone.

I'm a big fan of Norman Rockwell and I really want to visit the Norman Rockwell Museum in Massachussets. I also always wanted to go to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. So next summer, I will probably take a whole week to travel by myself. I will take my sweet time, stop everytime I feel like it. Do some sightseeing, shopping, eating. Visit what I want to visit (museums, old book stores and antique shops, a brewery, the Harvard University campus...). I will go through Vermont, down to Massachussets, where I will visit the Norman Rockwell Museum, then drive towards the East cost, probably stopping to Providence on the way, and then visit Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard and Provincetown. Read books on the beach with a bowl of cherries and some cold beer. And on my way back to Canada, I will stop to Boston and finally stay as long as I want. And in the car, I will listen to the music I love and turn the volume as loud as I wanted. I'm telling you, there's nothing like being alone.

I am really looking forward to it.

Wedding Bells

Woohoo! My friend Annick is getting married this summer. Here in Quebec, marriage is not very popular anymore. It seems to me that nobody is getting married nowadays. The last time I went to a wedding was 1989. Can you imagine? It was 18 years ago. And then my friend Catherine got married privately about 9 years ago. And that's it. These are my only two friends who ever got married since I've known them.

So CONGRATULATIONS ANNICK!!!

28 Weeks Later

I'm all excited about 28 Weeks Later, the sequel to 28 Days Later. The first one was so good! I can't wait to see if the sequel is going to live up to my expectations. I'm a little bit sad that Cilian Murphy is not part of the sequel, but it's not going to stop me from seing it. I actually think that the first movie was much better because there was not big stars in it. In fact, because it was a small British sleeper film instead of a big budget american action movie carried by a huge action star, it was easier to associate with the characters, fear for them and be unsure about what was going to happen to them. American movies always follow a certain formula and you always know that the hero is going to come out a winner. In 28 Days Later, I was not too sure of what was going to happen to our group of unlikely partners.

When I first saw 28 Days Later, what made it even more interesting to me was the idea behind the movie. I thought that the concept was fantastic and very thought provoking. For days, I could not stop thinking about what it would be like if a similar incident would happen in real life. Which franckly, would not be unlikely, in this day and age.

If you haven't seen 28 Days Later yet, I strongly suggest you rent the DVD.

Double Woohoo!!!

I'm all excited! A few days ago I read that a new « Tolkien » is coming out this week. The Children of Húrin, a tale started by J. R. R. Tolkien long before his death, was finally completed by his son Christopher. In fact, J. R. R. Tolkien started writting the story almost 100 years ago!

Christopher Tolkien compiled the writting from hundreds of pages of manuscripts into a 259 pages novel. So of course, I might be disappointed. In fact, it's most likely that I will be. But I'm excited nonetheless. Woohoo!!!

Here's a link related to The Children of Húrin, for those who are interested : Harper Collins Tolkien Web site

On a different note, Spring is finally here. No more snow. The temperatures are rising really fast. The sun is here to stay. So I shout another Woohoo!!!

What's your favorite part?

People can be very self-conscious. I know I am. And for us women, it can be difficult to compare ourselves to the models we see in magazines and the Hollywood goddesses. And as I get older, I realize that letting go of my youth is not as easy as I thought it would be.

But I'm sure that everyone, even if they are plagued by self-consciousness and even self-hatred, can find at least one part of their body that they like.

My favorite parts of my body used to be my flat stomach/22" waist and my tight round butt. After childbearing, years of sedentariness and a 25 pound weight gain, my butt ain't round and tight and my waist sure ain't 22 inches anymore. But gaining weight had one advantage... I have a little more cleavage than before. So I work it!

And you know what is my favorite part of my body now? My toes!!! LOL! Don't laugh! I'm serious! Not only do I truly love my toes, I think they are the most beautiful toes in the world! There is no amount of money that you could give me that would make me want to exchange my toes with someone else's toes. So in the summer, you can be sure that I always feature my toes in open-toe shoes and sandals. (Speaking of summer and sandals... Words to the wise... Please cut those toenails and cream those heels before you show your feet to the world... and long-ass toes sticking out of your sandals ain't sexy baby! In fact, it's plain discusting! Hey! Don't be vexed! Just trying to be helpful.)

So what's your favorite part of your body?
